    Ukulele Strings – GPX™ Fluorocarbon

    $2.25$17.95

With our success with the GPX™ classical guitar strings, we decided to use our experience with fluorocarbon monofilament to create a series of ukulele strings. Working with a leading ukulele internet forum we have developed two basic sets: bright (UKE 8000 series) or warm (UKE 8100 series). Both sets are available with either a high or low G string (4th string). The high G string is the same fluorocarbon material we use on the other three strings. The low G (4th) has a nylon core with a round wire wrap made of silver-plated copper. This is the same material we use to create our Sustenuto™ classical guitar bass strings. The low G plays an octave below the high G.

The first thing you will notice about Oasis Fluorocarbon Ukulele strings is their length (63”). This length is at least twice as long as the length needed to string a concert, soprano or tenor ukulele. We recommend that before using the string you cut the string in half with scissors. Use one section immediately and put one length of the string back in the envelope for future use. If you happen to have a low G set, the low G (4th) has two individual 39” lengths of the wound string in one envelope. Do not cut these strings before use.

Low G Smooth Wound Uke String
All round wound strings are subject to “string squeak”. Some players can control this effect better than others. If you are interested in dramatically reducing string squeak, Oasis has developed a smooth wound Low G string made from a nylon core and with a semi-flat wound phosphor bronze wrap wire. Unlike a flat wound string, which is made from flat wire, the semi-flat wound string starts as round wound and is then compressed. Sometimes this is referred to as roller wound. Smooth wound low G strings are available either as an individual string UKE-4SB (.031”) or UKE-4SW (.033”) or as part of a 4-string double set (UKE-8001SB Bright) or (UKE-8101SW warm) The low G smooth wound 4th string will give your ukulele a beautiful mellow tone with minimal or no string squeak. Like the regular low G sets, the two new sets have the same first three 63” strings and two of the 40” warm or bright smooth wound low G strings.

    “Southcoast” Linear Baritone ukulele strings
As most ukulele fans know, Dirk Wormhoudt of Southcoast Strings passed a number of years ago and the company is no longer in business. Southcoast had a dedicated following. With the help of Philip Davidson (pgdvi4@gmail.com), a fan of Southcoast strings, we have created the “Southcoast” Linear Baritone double set. The set is composed of the same materials and sizes used in the original Southcoast set (1st .024”) (2nd .030) (fluorocarbon). The 3rd (.027”) and 4th (.033”) strings are made from smooth wound brass with a nylon core.

  • GPX+™ Carbon Treble Classical Guitar Strings

    $6.95$12.95

guitarstringsBeing a classical guitar player, I prefer powerful, punchy treble strings. I never could find a set of nylon trebles that met this criterion. A second problem I found with nylon trebles is the “tubby” sounding 3rd string. Instead of projecting a powerful clear sound, I just hear a dull or muffled sounding string. Fluorocarbon (carbon treble) monofilament solves both of these problems. We actually use two types of fluorocarbon. The 1st string is specially made from a fluorocarbon monofilament designed to eliminate string shredding, which is sometimes associated with fluorocarbon 1st strings. The 2nd and 3rd strings are made from a different fluorocarbon monofilament to enhance their particular tonal properties. Where the GPX+™ has really separated itself from the competition is the tone and sustain. One comment we hear about other fluorocarbon classical guitar strings is that they sound brittle or thin. Not so with our GPX+™ carbon treble strings. Most players feel that they have the beautiful tonal properties of nylon with the power and punch of fluorocarbon.
GPX+™ carbon treble strings come in two tensions: normal and high. They also are available in a full high tension set paired with our high tension Sostenuto™ classical guitar bass strings.
GPX™ Classical Guitar Strings For most guitars, GPX+™ strings produce beautiful tone with excellent sustain.

James Piorkowski**, SUNY professor and former member of the world renowned Buffalo Guitar Quartet, put it this way: “These new carbon strings by Oasis are simply wonderful! With warm tone color and plenty of sustain, my guitar is now free to sing sweetly. Thankfully, my search for the optimum string is over. Bravo, Oasis!”

**James Piorkowski is a professor at the Fredonia School of Music, State University of New York, serving as the head of the guitar program since 1983. In 2006, he received both the President’s Award for Excellence and the Robert W. Kasling Award for Scholarly and Creative Excellence. He has toured extensively and was an 18- year member of the world-renowned Buffalo Guitar Quartet, which disbanded in 2000. Jim has a world of experience and, most importantly, he is a great guy, who served as a sounding board (pun intended) for the development of our GPX+™ Carbon Trebles and Sostenuto™ classical guitar bass strings.

Joseph Palmer“I’ve tried virtually every brand of carbon string on the market. In my experience, most carbon strings have a tendency to become overly bright, thin, and somewhat harsh in tone very quickly. Oasis strings, however, retain a mellow quality and roundness of sound while delivering the same kind of power, projection, and sustain that guitarists look for in carbons. For me there is no substitute when it comes to carbon strings.”
